A but little has been said of this proposed lino of railroad from which Tucson has so much to hope, sinco the preliminary survey, many had concluded that the scheme was dead like many other projects ot a similar nature. We are filed, however, to be able to state that the scheme is etill progresses, aud is now in such shape that it will probably be pushed to an early comple¬ tion. It will be remembered that Don Car¬ los Velaseo, the editor of thoFronterizo ot this city, left about seron months ago for Mexico, it was supposed on a visit. He has just returned and it transpires that his mission to the city of Mexico was to obtain a concession from the Mexican government for the Tucson and Gulf of California railroad. When he reached the city of Mexico he found parties representing New York capitalists on the ground endeavor¬ ing to obtain a concession for n road on the...

Ill ft, f Jf III 31 1 It h if f I 414 41 Weekly citizen. SUNDAY. DECEMBER 3. 1S82 A CHANCE FOR DISTWCTION. The chief characteristic, perhaps, of distinctively American character, is the production of the man for the opportu¬ nity. From tho earliest Jays of this wonderful Republic there has trans¬ pired no social or political crisis that did not bring forth from oblivou tho heroes. Onr Washington was borne to lofty power and undying fame upon the wave of emergency, which forever bar isd from sight many deserving men whose opportunity was for death rather than distinction. In subsequent national disturbances the opportnnity has always produced its men of genius, and a Ion? list of bright names are recorded upon its his¬ tory's pases', to which the patriot points with excusable pride as heroes worthy of emulation. Not. only does the opportunity pro¬ duce great men in these high spheies of action, but pre-eminence is attained throughout the innltitndimins walks of life all about us. IJi...
