She jUoxviUc Whig. Knoxville, Ttnn., May 30, 1866. High Reitts. We hve bo words of encourage ment for persons wishing to rent dwelling or tore houses in Knoxville. Our citizens having houses to rent, calculate what their houses cost, and then charge for tuo years' rest the whole amount. Others aim to recover all they lost by the rebellion by in creasing their rents. Others being without the promptings of conscience, take- the advantage of men s necessities, and charge all the ronter is worth, and even more. The result is, that men of business habits and means aro driven out of the place, and compelled to locale elsewhere. Stores are closed, and men are sold out, and the number of business houses is reduced. Let the best business man the country affords buy even a fine stock of goods, and bring them here, and sell at high rates, deduct his rnnts and taxes, clerk hire and fnmilj expenses, and at the end of one year the whole of his capital is consumed. Better by far that ho take his m...
