Michael Hughes died at his honme on the Gibson plantation in this parish on Sundr.v morning, June 18th, at 11 o'clock. He was horn in County Mayo, Ireland, on Nov. 8th, 1840 and came to Natchez when ten rears ,old. During the late war he was a gallant soldier in Capt. Otis Ba ker's company from Natchez, known as the Natchez Rifles. He came to this parish just after the war and engaged in the business of plantation manager. A few years ago he leased the Gibson pllantationu, assisted by his nephew John Hughes. While on this place Mr. Hughes was at tacked by cancer of the tongue and in vain sought relief, and after great suffering he died last Sun day.
