MORNUTO, MAT 23, 1857 TERM S. $2.00 m awtcm, ur xsrxsci The Free State Party Iti Policy. A rariety of opinion exists in Kan sas in regard to the future policy of the Free State party. Though the Topeka Convention of the 10th of March was designed to bind up the the future action of the party, yet it by no means meets the entire approval of the masses. In our opinion that convention was premature in its as sembling, though we are not disposed to take issue with its action. We thought, and expressed ourself, that wisdom would suggest that the whole matter be deferred until we knew what position the national administration would take ; not that we would con cede any right, let Mr. Buchanan take what course he would, but we could act more intelligently with a full knowledge of the policy which was to prevail at Washington. But the convention was held, its policy was jtde...

HilLV The Herald of Freedom Office. It affords us pleasure to state that after months of fatigue, anxiety and labor, wo hare, at length, set a Steam Tower P&ess in operation in Lawrence, and now, Instead of consuming night and day for an entire week to work off our large edi tion of the Herald of Freedom, we are en abled to do the work in a much better style, in leas than two days, at the rate of from 800 to 1,000 an hour. It was our purpose to have set our steam works in operation early in April last, but we met with delays, which procrastinated the completion of the enterprise, until the 21st of May last just a year to a day from the time the old office was destroyed by violence until it appeared printed by steam. The starting up of the machin ery on that day was one of those singular coincidences...

It is an important ques tion, and demands a candid answer. Looking over the country and seeing it as ft is fo-day, it is time we were all exam ining our political bearing, that if the magnet is not. pointing aright we may correct ourselves at once. The period suested by us in February last, when we asked the Topeka Convention to be adjourned until we could learn the policy of the new administration before we should attempt to define our position, has arrived, Now we can see where we are, and if we are disposed we can shape our course accordingly. For th Herald of Freedom. Opinion Worth Considering. The inaugural of the newly appointed Chief Magistrate for Kansas has appeared, in which is set forth the policy that he in tendsshall govern him inhlfadministration of the Territory This document is now to be put through the ordeal of public tw1 i-9f discussion. I care ITlllCiSUl clAHi not so much to attempt an analysis of the doctrines therein contained as to express a few hints for the consideration of con servative Free State men, which are sug gested as much by the appearance of the authoritative document before mentioned, as by any principles or policies it may contain. It seems needless to observe, that there is really in'existence in this Territory but two political parties, one of which is marked by it3 devotion and adherence to the principles of Free Labor, Free Speech, Free Press, and genuine Popular Sover eignty; and the other equally distin guished for its devotion to the institution of Slavery, an intolerance of publi...
