For publishing this circular, his highness, Judge Mays, proposes to fine and imprison Mr Camper the editor of the Herald, and Mr. Boyd the editor of the Democrat. If a cow does not do well After dropping her calf give a tablespoonful of saltpeter in a bran mash three momtoga in succession. This plan has bee# adopted more than forty years in I one dairyman's herd, and he haa been remarkably successful in its use. Green manures produce beet results on sandy or gravelly soil deficient in vegetable matter. On black soil, c*pMW)lr if wet, it is better to feed thegreen crop, and put it on in the shape of manure. Tne nitrogen is in feMer shape, and there is lets danger of hnmio acid from slow decomposition of green herbage in cold soil. Colonel Curtis says of feeding pigs for their manure: My experience has demonstrated to me that in no way can a field be so cheaply and thoroughly enriched as by feeding hogs bountiMl* on the ground, and a course of ftnsng...

Well Done, Scottsville. Scottsville and the South side have Manifested a most commendable public spirit in organizing an Agricultural Association, and establishing an annual Fair at Scottsville. It shows that the people of that section have pluck, push and public spirit. And we are glad to learn that they have not exhausted all of their energies and public spirit, in the act of appointing committees, as the people of Charlottesville did, when they undertook the great work of unveiling the Jefferson monument on the next 4th of July. We are pleased to know that rhe Southsiders are working with a will for their fair that will win brilliant success, We hope the success of Scottsville will have a wholesome effect upon Charlottesville, by showing what public spirit and faithful work can accomplish, directly...

[For the Jeffebsoni a n. I Fruit Culture and Farming. Farmers should recollect that fruit culture does not interfere much with regular farm operations. Farming and fruit crops go well together. In fact the culture of fruits is an important adjunct to farming, to say nothing of their commercial value. All stock are fond of fruits, especially apples. Their value fur hogs, is at least half that of corn, and, a barrel ol apples costs almost nothing. Culls, seedlings, and inferior sorts are- as good as any for this purpose. For family use, comfort and health, and reduced demand for bread and meat supplies, there is no telling what is saved and gained by farmers having a good orchard. Even health and doctors bills might be included ; and, as a market crop, nothing cultivated costs as little or pays better ...

Cjje Icfftrsoiuan. ( 1835.) BY JEFFERSONIAN PUBLISHING CO. WEDNESDAY JUNE 27,1883. This paper la entered attliePost-Ofllceat Charlottesville. Va„ as secoud-clnsfi matter. The Democratic Convention which soon meets in Lynchburg, has a most important duty to perform. The Democratic party of the State has been distracted by issues, which should never have been championed by it as a party. The debt question should never have been allowed as a Democratic issue. It was a question upon which good Democrats could and did honestly differ in opinion, and it was unwise that fealty to any of the debt paying schemes should ever have been regarded as a test of loyalty to the party. Happily the debt question has now been settled, and the unanimous desire of the party is to abide sucli settlement of the question as the courts may make. I* The first duty of the Lynchburg Convention will be to define the position of the party on this question. In no uncertain phrase must the declaration be made that t...

Wooden Utensils in the Dairy. The Neio England Farmer gives the following advice: —The secret of keeping wooden dairy utensils, like churns, butter-workers, trays, moulds, etc., sweet and freo from all suspicion of mustiness and raucidity, is a very simple one and easily mastered it' one will only remember that wood swells by wetting and shrinks again as it dries, and also that water and oil Mo not mix. Milk and cream are gre.isy substances. Let either come in contact with a clean, dry piece of wood and they will leave a greasespot, and the dryer the wood the deeper I lie grease will penetrate the pores, and the more difficult it will be to remove.
