4* I Miners Quit Work. Pittsburg, Pa, July 6.-The groat s wage struggle of the caol miners wa, inaugurated yesterday throughout the Pittsburg district, but it ?wJll be imposy slble to tell anything about the true 1 situation before to-day, as yesterday 3 was a general holiday and work was s suspended in all the mines of the district. It was a day of mass-meetings, f a preconcerted arrangement of the dis! trict executive board of the United Mine WVorkers. Meetings were held 1 in nearly every mining settlement that was represented at Saturday's convernItion in this city, and the miners were implored not to falter in the great struggle that has begun. What effect the meetings will have can not be determined until this morning. When it has been learned just how many men have refused to go to work then the magnitude of the strike will manifest itself. Much doubt is expressed as to the action of the Pittsburg and Chicago miners on the Wheeling division of the Baltimore and Ohio. M. A. Han...

Liberal cuts on ads for large space or long time H but said bJonds are hereby validated and are hereby made valid debts against the several counties I)v which they were issued At first sight this would have the appearace of a wise amenindment, but :a close inspection shows that it is very onesided and if atdoptcd, would reflect on the integrity of tho state, since there are other purchases of bonds of the same kind for whose protection no provision is made in the amendment. In this act the state, through its legislature, seeks to use its power to protect itself, while leaving other creditors in exactly the same position unprotected. The submission of such a proposition to the voters of Texas for their approval is certainly a reflection upon them, whice they wvill resen...

I f WI N-^ CHFIISTiAN ENDEAVOR. Thousands of Visitors Arriving at San Francisco for the Grand Rally San Francisco, Cal, July 7 --It is already evident that the Christian Endeavor convention which opens to-day will be the greatest in the history of the organization. The atLendance will more than exceed anticipations and the royal welcome extended to the delegates assures the success and enthusiasm of the gathering. All day long the trains have been rolling in, and have been met by members of the reception committee, which of itself is a small army, for the white caps of those whose missions it is to welcome the strangers within our gates are seen everywhere on the streets. The latch string of California is out, and the initials "C. E." are the open sesame of boundless hospitality. Never before, not even by the Knight Templars or Grand Army, whose nationalconventions were held here, have arrangements been so well made or the city so tastefully decorated as now The whole auditorium, ab...

Tile Strike Situation Pittsburg, Pa, July 15--The prospect for the settlement of the great miners' strike was brighter last night than at any time since the struggle began and both sides are already to count on a resumption of work in the near future The cheering announcement was made last night that W. P. Dearmitt, president of the New York and Ceveland Gas Coal company, whose 1200 men have been constantly at work, and without whose assistance the success of the movement would have been jeopardized, agreed to join the operators in a plan for the settlement of the strike. This result has been brought about through the efforts of the members of the joint arbitration commission who have been working assiduously to this end since meeting President Dearmitt. Yesterday afternoon the commission called upon Mr. Dearmitt and submitted their plan, to which he agreed Then the commission met the miners' officials and the propositi...
