Id 1833, 1834 and 1835 the actor Tyrone Power visited America, and his observations on the Uni- ted States were published in two volumes. To-day, after the lapse of nearly sixty years, the book is most interesting reading. The time of his visit was the begin- ning of the steamboat and railroad age. Fulton's work had begun to produce worthy effects, and the construction of railroads was just beginning. It is hard to realize tho difference these sixty years have wrought iu the countenance of the land. Power appears to have been a gvuut sailor, and his thirty-five day trip across from England was quite to his taste. After the ship sighted Rarnegat Light the proba bilities of reaching New York the next day were tins subject of wagers. The ship then did man- age to get as far us the entrance of the Narrows.
