Death of Mr. Wilfred A. Payne The death occurred on Satur day morning last of Mr. Wilfred A. Payne, at the age of 50 years. He had not enjoyed good health for some time. Many friends and relatives made the long journey to Spring vale on Monday last to pay their last respects to the youngest member of a large and well known family. In the quiet and dignified surroundings of the spacious crematorium he was borne to rest on the shoulders of Messrs. T. Whitington, W. Newell, B. Brown, whilst the pall was carried by Messrs. L. G. Cumming, G. A. Payne, Bert Payne, R. Smith F. Woods. Rev. S. Taylor officiated, and 'Cum ming and Culhane had charge of the funeral arrangements. - Thd late Mr. Payne leaves a wife and three daughters.

Alexantlra Tennis Club Opened by Shire President. Club President (Reg Roberts) introduced Cr. Davy (Shire Presi dent) to the big attendance at the Alexandra Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon last. It was the club's opening day, and Cr. Davy had been invited to declare the club open for play for the forthcoming season. Cr. Davy, in an appropriate address declar ed the club opened. A fternoon tea was served, after which play commenced.

Opening of Alexandra Bowling Club A big gathering was present Sat the official opening of the above club on Saturday last. Cr. Davy, Shire President, was re ceived by Club Vice-President (S. Cadge). and Club Secretary (E. Caddy). Club President Reg Payne was unable to be present owing'to illness. In an address befitting the oc casion, Cr. Davy declared the club open for the season. -IHe threw the first jack, and Mrs. Reg Payne sent down the first bowl. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the ladies. A rinks competition was held during the alternoon, and was won by R. Wynne, N. Miller, E. Newell and G. Gauld. In his address Mr. Cadge ex pressed gratificatibn at'the big number present, and stated that indications pointed to a very suc cessful season. Cr. Davy refer red to the splendid work the sporting bodies were doing at the Park. He would urge that no charge be made to these bodies for the use of the Park which, after all, they were beautifying by their efforts.

Cathlkin 'Tennis Club There were about fifty people present at the opening of the new tennis court at Cathkin on Sat urday last. Cr. Davy, Shire Presl dent, officially declared the court open for play, and spoke of the wonderful asset it would prove to the district. About thirty six players took part in an American tournament, the. winners were-- Mr. Roy Fox (gents), and Mrs. Eric Fox (ladies). A club has been formed with Mr. J. G. Mac intvre President, and Mr. George Graham, secretary.
