High Ex-Students Win R.U. Match In their initial game as a foot ball team in the District Junior Competition, Parrainatta High Ex-Students defeated Auburn, 16 points to three. Three-quarter movements re sulted in two fine tries by centre Pat Walker, and half, Gatenby, scored another good try. Full back Dave Armstrong played a great game, and gave a grand exhibition of safe, solid football. For the forwards, Hitchcock, Annetts and Johnson played well. Ex-Students 16 (Walker "2, Gatenby 1, tries; P. Armstrong, 2 goal4 and 1 penalty goal).

Ne'w. City Couni * The following is the second of a sgries of articles written by the Mayor of Parramatta. (Alderman E. A. Mobbs) on the work accomplished in the first year of the new Parramatta City Council. We are aware .that under the new "set-up" we can do in finitely less work on the roads for reasons which I will set out later, and this applies very markedly to the smaller areas. At the commencement of each year a quota of the "money available for public works" is scientifically calculated and allo cated to each Ward, .and the. Ward Aldermen (who constitute Ward Committees) determi:ne where the amounts shall be spent. They then present their report which" is adopted by CounciL Maintenance and urgent repairs are carried out from time to time and must be provided for,. as also must damage by the elements be considered.. The appetising 2-couirse meal cocked in real "home style" and served by volunteer members-of the club in the comforable, friendly atmosphere of the Audi torium, was praised highly by lunchers. During the course of the lun cheon, which was held between the hours, of 12 and 2, a musical programme was . rendered by members of the Home Service Club. DAWN SERVICE AT PARRAMATTA Over 600 paraded for the Anzac Dawn Service organised by Parramatta R.S.L. The service was held at the Memorial in Prince Alfred Park. After a short service, wreaths were placed in remembrance of those who. have "passed on" by representatives of the various ex-servicemen's and women's organisations. After Retreat and Reveille had been sounded, the parade marched off to the City Hall to attend the civic service over which the Mayor, Ald. E. A. Mobbs, presided. During the service, the sub branch, president, Mr. Armstrong, presented a .life membership badge to Mrs. Hartnett, who had previously been made a life member of the Women's Auxili ary in recognition of her many years of service.
