MM ROYALTY GETS RUN IH. The King of the Belgians is, of all European monarchs, the most devoted t ) the fascinating sport of motoring. He bought a new French car lately in Paris, and immediately set off, with only his driver as companion, to test the powers of the vehicle. From speed to speed he progressed, until after a time they were whizzing along at the totally illegal rate of thirty miles an hour. Suddenly a guard sprang out) into the road, held up his hand to stop, and pulling out his note-book demanded name and ad dress. The driver whispered to him the identity of the owner, but the officer thought he was being hoaxed and got angry. The King had actually to bring out his card-case to prove his identity before the police man, convinced at last, would allow mm 10 proceed. This is not the first time the Belgian monarch has very nearly been landed in a police-court. About a year ago he had an unpleasant adventure in Italy. Interesting Experiments in Pasture Grasses. [Newspaper Article] — Moree Gwydir Examiner and General Advertiser — 5 October 1901

IiitercHting Experiments in Pusture Wrasses. The importance of introducing into Queensland, in a, thoroughly sys tematic manner, the most suitable English pasture grasses, is foroing itself, says the ' Queenslander,' on the atten tion of all engaged in agricultural pursuits, and more particularly of those directly interested in dairy farming on the Downs. Mr. John Long, of Sylvia Park, Toowoomba, has been making some highly interesting and apparently ve,ry successful experiments in this direction. Sylvia Park ia a property consisting of some forty acres, on the eastern slope of the Main Range, and commanding one of the most picturesque views obtainable in the district. From it the mountain peaks around Ipswich can easily be seen, and Helidon appears just to lie at one's feet. Mr. Long has laid out this property in such a way that it will speedily become one of the most charming homes in the district. Mr. Long hag been making 'experiments with some of the best varieties of pasturo an...

Experimental Farms. [Newspaper Article] — Moree Gwydir Examiner and General Advertiser — 5 October 1901

Experimental Farms, The Stato Minister for Agriculture' with referenoo to the recent debate on the Department of Agriculture, ex pressed the opinion thut somo misap prehension existed as to the idea that tho Government experimental farms oompetfi with tho farmers in tho sale of produce. He snys that, Boeing tho ai;ricultural produce o£ New South Wa'es is over £6,000,000 annually, while the total sales from the Govern ment farms only amount to about £5000, over £1000 ol which is for tho sale of etock and wool, it 13 patent that fho comparatively small output of the tarms cannot have any appreciable effect upon the markets. The com petition is practically nothing, and the goods eold can make no difference to the price of the produce disposed of in the jooal market.
