OUR SANDY'S CREEK LETTER. Thursday, March 16. [Newspaper Article] — Bairnsdale Advertiser and Tambo and Omeo Chronicle — 18 March 1882

OUR SANDY'S CREEK LETTER (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)   Thursday, March 16.   Another earthquake here! Not that   anyone has felt the shock, but I feel confident there has been one about. A fortunate "hatter" has obtained over   10 ounces of gold from half of a pad dock he is cleaning up, and the whole is estimated to yield between 15 and 20 ounces. Amongst the gold referred to is a six-ounce "speck.; Mr. Robert   Bowden is the deserving and fortu- nate miner whom the earthquake   has thus favoured by shaking up the nuggets. A few more earthquakes with, perhaps a land-slip or two and a big flood, and Sandy's Creek may be -- no, not swamped--but 'a permanent mining centre. Now, joking apart, I confidently predict a bright future for this place, not in alluvial, for that is, and never will be other than patches few and far between, but in quartz reefs, for take my word for it--and I say this advisedly--that...
