SHIP NEWS.—On Tuesday last sailed for Port Jackson the ship Cochin, Capt. JONES ; having a large quantity of wheat on board. Passengers, Mr. G. FERGUSSON and Mr. G. GUEST. Two vessels arrived last week at Port Dalrymple from Sydney, with merchandize, which they have chiefly brought for wheat ; & the     brig Jupiter sailed from thence for Port Jackson, laden with wheat. CIVIL DEPARTMENT HIS HONOR the LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR has the sat- isfaction of announcing, that the BANDITTI of BUSH-RAN- GERS (Eleven in Number) were overtaken at the Tea-tree Brush, on Monday afternoon, by Lance Serjeant M'CARTHY, with a   Party of Seven Soldiers of the 46th Regiment ; who lost not a Mo- ment in doing their Duty, under all the Disadvantages of a long Pursuit, in the severe Rain of that Day, which, by preventing the   Muskets from going off, alone saved the whole Banditti from Capture and Destruction. The gang of bush-rangers appeared in the vicinity of Black Brush on Saturday, and were tracked on the following morning by Serjt, McCARTHY, of the 46th, with his party. On Monday the bush- rangers were at a house at Tea-tree Brush, where they had dined ; and about 3 o'clock in the afternoon Serjt. McCarthy with his party came up. The bush-rangers ran out of the house into the woods, and being eleven in number and well covered by timber and ground, the eight soldiers could not close with them. LOSS OF THE HARPOONER TRANSPORT.—The following affect-   ing narrative of the melancholy disaster has been given by one   of the survivors:—"On the 26th Oct. detachments of the 4th Royal Veteran Battalion and their families, with a few belonging to other Corps in Canada, in all 380, embarked from Quebec on the afternoon.     JOSEPH BRYANT master, and sailed from Quebec on the afternoon   of the 27th, bound to Deptford, in charge of Captain Prime. Capt. BRODIE. In our Paper of the 5th Inst. the arrival of the above vessel, owing to the hurry of the Press, was named by mistake the Harlot, Capt. BROADWEST, instead of the Alert, Capt. BRODIE. A messenger arrived last night from Pitt Water and informed us, that the bush-tangers have been at the Carlton River within a few days past, and plundered the stock-keepers in that neighbourhood of the little necessaries they had for their support. It appearing that Robert Taylor (commonly called Parson Tay- lor), who is Advertised as having absented himself from Govern- ment Employment without leave, was allowed to pass the River and through the Country without any Pass, merely showing an Old Letter, which he called a Dispatch for Port Dalrymple ; It is here- by ordered that no Letters, Proclamations, or Dispatches, even though marked outside with the Lieutenant Governor's Name, be admitted as a Pass, but that in all Cases a Regular Pass signed by the Lieute- nant Governor be required.
