CAPE BRIDGEWATER. [Newspaper Article] — Portland Observer and Normanby Advertiser — 5 March 1914

CAPE BRIDCEWATER. (From our correspondent.) The long spell of dry weather came to an end on Friday as noon, when a violent thunderstorm passed over this locality. A tcrrrifio downpour followed, 60 points falling in 20 minutes.' The ground was toc dry to absorb such heavy rain rapidly, and the water ran off the high hills, cutting deep ruts in the sandy soil, and forming large pools in the hollows. Light rain fell during the night, making a total up to 9 o'clock of 9-4 points. This caused a muchneeded spring in the grass, as the country is very dry and parched. Only 157 points has beeni registered since the beginning of the year. The funeral of Mrs. 8 Jenkins, the unfortunate woman who was folund (lead on Monday last after three days' search through the heath scrubs, took place on Wednesday, the burial ground being the Bridgewater cemetery. There was a large attendance. Much sympathy is expressed for the bereaved husband and two little ones.

Wyatt said the retiring committee had done excellent work, and he did not think they could do better than put them back again for another terlt. Ho was sure the parents were satisified with the way-in which the work of the Committee had been carried out. He therefore had plea sure in nominating Messrs. B. Davis, T. Taylor, H. Goldsmith, S. R. Clark, and Mlesdames, HI, Allen, Hartt and R. J. Malseed. Minor matters were magnified, and things of great importance tossel offn' with a line. The Patterson s case, it lere storm ill a teapot, was presented in such a way itas to give the public an idea that a great row was going on, and in consequence people would hide be hind it and say they would not contri bute to the hospital, He was annoyed to find that lie was misundlerstood by the people owing to his having been misrepresented by the "Observer." Hle did not know why the other paper did not sen:l a reporter. I No. 6 Post Office Place, South Melb.,2/7/11. CLEMENTS TONIC LTD., " Your tonic is one of the quickest nerve and brain cures known. I tried all kinds of doctors' medicines, and got no relief as I have from your tonic. I could not stand anyone talking to me, or the noise of the town traffic. I lost appetite and weight.
