To-day a match will be played on the oval between teams representing the Banks and Civil Service against All Corners. NEVERTIRE NEWS.   (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) FEBRUARY 1. ANNIVERSARY Day was a gala day for       Nevertire. We had the opening of the bore, a cricket, match. and a ball in the evening. The bore was opened with great ceremony, all the towns people being present. Mrs. Campbell broke a bottle of champagne and christened it the "Nevertire Anni- versary Artesian Bore." The cricket match was between Nevertire and Warren, and was won by Nevertire by an innings and 14   runs. The following players did good service for the Warren team : Messrs. Falvey, Bolton, Punch, Kelly, Brierly, as also did Messrs. Brown, Campbell, Easly, Butler, Evans, Chapman and Hawkins for the Nevertire team. The cricteters' ball in the evening was a great success, there being about, forty couples present. Mr. J. Brown (secretary), and Mr. J. The reports and balance sheet having been read.   The CHAIRMAN (Mr. J. D. Mackay), in moving their adoption, said he must continue   the congratulations expressed in the report. The company was even a greater success than had been anticipated. THE " Horticiillvral Times " is indebted to a correspondent for the following account of a so called snaketrce. which is said to exert such a terrifying influ ence upon the natives of tlie Mexican wilds:-A late tra vel! One day he saw a dark object on one of tbn outlying spurs of the Sierra ifiuJre Mountains, which so ex cited his curiosity that he examined it carefully through his field-glass. He saw it was a tree of such unusual appear ance that he. decided to visit the spot. He rode on horse back to within a few rods of the summit, when he came to an abrupt rise he could not climb. America and England. Seven United States warships will co-operate with the British fleet in patrolling Behring Sea. Land Boxeds,-A. sitting of the local Land Board commences this morning, and will extend over three days. The first Bitting of the new land board of Nyngan will be held on Monday, February 19. MURDERESSES Ar LARGB. -A wire to the Bathurst ADVOCATE, dated Monday night, states that the Melbourne Ooroner, Mr. Neild, says ir. 90 per cent, of 500 infant corpses he has so far examined death was due to wilful suffocation. He estimates that four teen hundred women are living in Melbourne who hare cheated the hangman. Dier> FROM EXHAUSTION. - The prisoner Schmidt, who escaped from the Warwick (Q.) train on Tuesday, was re-arrested at. Middle Ridge on Saturday night.. He had been on the mouotaiu near Drayton most of the time of his freedom. Constable Little, in charge of Drayton police station, who had been riding all day searching for the prisoner, has died from exhaustion.
