The Great Rothschild. We yesterday dined at to meet the Rothschilds, and very amusing it was. He (Rothschild) told us his life and adventures. He was the third son of the banker at Frankfort. " There was not," he said, " room enough for us all in that city. I dealt in English goods. One great trader came there who had the market to himself; he wa3 quite the great man and did us a favor if he sold us goods. Somehow I offended him, and he refused to show me his patterns. This was on a Tuesday ; I said to my father, " I will go to England." Icould speak but German. The next Thursday I started: The nearer I got to England, the cheaper were goods. As' soon as I arrived in Manchester, I laid out all my money, things were so cheap. I made good profit. I soon found that there were three profits: the raw material, the dyeing, and the manufacturing. I said to the manufacturer, " I will supply you with the raw material and dye, and you suppl y me with manufactured goods." So I got three ...

But one moment to delaythem ^ / Just while memory might array them Round the shadowy pnsl! Sure they say!—bright eddies dashing, In the glorious suntight (lashing,. Silver circlesi crossing, crashing. Light, and fresh, and free. See! the very skies above them, Bending, bless, caress and love them, Onward still:—no smiles can move them From their goal, the sea. The California fever raged in England quite as violently as it has done here. Great numbers of vessels were up for the gold re- ' g ion,—some carrying passengers to Cbagres, 'Others to Galveston, &c.; rates ranging from £23 upwards. All sorts of schemes for mis-' ing companies & capital are advertised. One of the companies nlone proposes to raise a capital of JfiOlLOOO, reserving half to be ta- ' ken to the United States. The Times captions the public against these schemes, many of which afe mere swindles.
