How the Fusion would Work. Tne Herald will probably feel Itself obliged, as an orthodox Dem ocratic journal, to abide by what ever conclusion the Democratic State Central Committee may come to in the conference to be held at the Palace Hotel on the 24th inst. But, as long as we have a hope of averting disaster, we should not deem ourself a true Democrat if we did not speak our mind. Prob ably any fair minded Democrat will concede the fact that if tbe Kearney organization was not ex hibiting deaided vigor neither the Democrats nor Republicans would think of practically disbanding their organizations at so critical a conjuncture as this. ddfdfdfd Semi-Tropical Orchardists. [From tho Southorn California Horticul turist.! The season for planting orange, lemon and lime orchards lias ar rived. It bas generally been con ceded tbat tbe month of May is tbe best time In which to transplant tbs orange. Orcbardists and nur serymen differ on this point—some maintaining tbat February or March are better months, while others prefer the Fall of the year. We are inclined to the opinion that tbe objections to February are not well founded, and that the bad luck which occasionally atteuds the transplanting of trees in that month are attributable more to tho way In which the work is dove than to the season of tbe year. When trees are planted during tbe Winter mouths there is not gener ally so much pains taken with the work as wbeu it Is done in the Bummer time. During tbe Winter the days are cool, the ground is wet, rains are continually falling, and it is too apt to be considered that if tbe tree is taken up and put out again in fin...
