Forest Service gears up for fi res Business Under the terms of the plea agreement, a second count against Stygar of assault with a deadly weapon and a count of making criminal threats will be dismissed. McCoy had bruises and abrasions on his chest, arm, abdomen, back, thigh and shin. He had burns on his buttocks and legs. McCoy told the sheriff’s department that he and Stygar had been drinking at a residence on May 12 when Stygar became angry over comments McCoy made about a woman Stygar was dating. McCoy said later that night Stygar threw liquid on him, possibly vodka, and then he felt the heat of the fi re. McCoy told investigators that Stygar also struck him with a hatchet before leaving. McCoy said he then went to sleep and, out of fear, did not seek medical aid until the following evening. Trinity County Sheriff’s Department had no residence listed for McCoy. Mike and Betty Wines recently traveled to Reno to attend the wedding of a nephew. En route Betty traveled via Paradise to pick up Mike ( recovering from surgery on his shoulder) and her mother. At the time, the fires in the Paradise area were just starting. Gail Burk, James, Penny and Michael Higgins went tent camping at Ruth Lake. Gail had a little boat so they paddled around the lake.
