6 THE TEXAS MINER. WITH WOOL ON THE FREE LIST. IF wool be put on the freelist, the American wool grower will have to submit to the disadvantages of raising wool in this climate on even terms with his foreign rivals, who do not have such difficulties to contend with, and so without adequate pro- tection must necessarily be driven out of the business. Our sev- enth largest agricultural industry, producing annually $66,000 000 worth of wool and representing an investment of $100,000,000 in sheep, will be destroyed by free trade. Sheep will be fattened and will then be sent to market as food, and flocks will disappear forever. Our food supply will in time thus be decreased, and our manufacturers eventually will be driven to buy their wool in London or in Australia. Gold will be thus sent out of the country again, increasing the harmful in- fluences that must follow with the balance of trade permanently against us. The wool growers will be forced into some other industry. They will proba...

THE TEXAS MINER. 7 and spirit, and holds in His hand the universe of matter is the grandest theme the soul can contemplate. Next in dignity are the principles and methods which control and apply human agencies to mobilize masses of citizens for the general good. This is political science. We pity the narrowness which cannot comprehend the dignity of this study; we are patient with weakness that cannot grasp it; we make no answer to those who ridicule it. but we give heart and hand in patriotic devotion to the women who reach out to know and to do large things for the home and the flags. There is another side to this question which should appeal to all women. None dispute woman's pre-eminence in the home, and a true woman desires the most of all to be faithful there; to prepare the food, to make the garments, and to minister in the nursery to little children, is the dream of youth and the blessed fruition of mature years; but to many a mother's heart has come the disappointment of a ...

THE TEXAS MINER. Pure Food. Butterine is a much abused product. As a matter of fact it is pure, sweet, wholesome, and infinitely preferable to ordinary country butter. A special correspondent of this paper recently visited the factory owned and operated by the Armour Packing Co., of Kansas City, manufacturers of the widely advertised Silver Churn Butterine. A five story building- is perfectly fitted for the scientific preparation of this food product. Everything- is spotlessly clean; all appliances are the latest and most improved, and every precaution is taken to secure the production of an absolutely pure and wholesome food. All processes are under the direction of a foreign chemist who has made the skilful combination of pure sweet fats the study of his life. He pays as much attention to details as does the most fastidious housekeeper to her cooking. The result is that Silver Churn Butter- ine is ever fresh, fragrant and delicious —a dainty delicacy for the table. Scientific expe...
