A COUNCILLOR'S CRITICISM. [Newspaper Article] — Tocumwal Guardian and Riverina Stock Journal — 14 March 1919

A "COUNCILLOR'S CRITICISM. At the local council meetiiig on Monday last Cr Quirk expressed the opinion that Pastures Boards should be abolished.for all all the good, they were, and the stock route's taken over by the council The Boards ineffectively dealt with the rabbit pest, aiid the lack of supervision over the reserves was responsible for the spread of noxi ous weeds. The present system of permits issued was simply a iar.ee as far as it went towards preventing, sheep .stealing, and was simply persecuting stockowne^s. Cr Fy'e defended the boards, and said it would be impossible for shire councils to supervise the work, neither was It advisable if they could, because persons may be, elected to manage affairs who were not stockowners. Cr Vagg lemarked thai what the Boards required was more power. Cr Quirk said ho hoped llie sub ject would be discussed at the muni cipal conference in May. The matter then dropped.
