TRARALGON. Wednesday, 25th Feb. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 26 February 1880

TRAR.ALGON. (FROsT OU'owN CORRZSPONDERNT.) Wednesday, 25th Feb. T suppose I must first touch on election mattere, but really there is very little tosay on this subject, as the excitement which was observable a week ago appears to have sub sided. The friends of both caudidates are working hard, quietly; liut earnestly: but think it is a hopeless case with Mr. MI'Ivor, as even :imongst his own friends the im pr~sion that Mlr.'? l:son will poll three votes out of every five, if not two ourtof every three. My opinion is that Mason will be re turned by a very large mmajority, and so he deserres to be. for he has worked very hard for the district, and this his strongest oppo nents do not attempt to deny. I regret to say that Mrs. Kaye, wife of Mr. E. Kive. of the Star Hotel. is very dan gerously ill. and, in fact, is hardly expected to recover. She has been unconscious for several days past, and Dr. Simmons holds out but little hone of her recovery. By the bye, speaking of Dr. Simmons. a ...

A VOICE FROM THE SOUTH. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 26 February 1880

A VOICE FRt3LT.'11 E SOUTII, -4---- BY A SOUTHERNER. The Southern lortion of the Elec torate of South (?ippsland, which, ini times of vore was wont to return its own member to the Legislative Assem blv of Victoria, is now nowhere in point of numbers when compared with the ratepaying and Electoral IHolls of the Bulln .uln and 'l'Tralgon divisions. Still it is an important facteor in the way of turning the majority'. and as it will probably poll somethinig like five hundred votes this election, it is hound to have a big say in the fortheoming contests. Neither of the candidiates have yet at this present time of writing made their appearance in our midst. but I see from their alvertised pro grammnes they ioth purpose attacking ou1r political susceptibilities next week. Indeed Mr. Melvor commenices to morrow, the 21st inst., and in travell ing round the circle in different di rections.- their- engagemenlits Iare so ar ranged- they, will -meet faen .to fa:ue at the outlying townshipii if...

lle )C limiri 6n t iirbiaii. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 2G, 1Iso. lMORE than ordinary interest is being taken in the matter which the elecrtol of South Gippsland will have to de cide on Saturday next, the 28th inlt., namely, the election of a member to represent them in the Legislative As. scmbly. At first it was supposed that three candidates would have offered themselves, but Captain Dane having retired, the issue now rests between Mr. F. C. Mason, the late ncember, who has faithfully performed his duties, to the best of his ability, as tlhe representative of South Gippsland firi the greater part of the last nine vears, and Mr. Meivor, the agriculturad lec turer, whose ambition has prompted hint to become a candidate for Parlia mnentary hlonors, after a residence in the colony of comparatively brief duration. Although, when announcing our views on polities in our first issue, we hesitated not to come forward boldly in the Liberal interest (to which cause we shall always maintain our al le...
