A Cann River Experience. 'Mrs. A. Rankin, of Cann River, very   narrowly escaped a disaster at the Snowy River entrance this week. She was at Marlo for a holiday, and her husband had taken her across to the beach on the other side. As the boat touched the   shore, Mr. Rankin, who, perhaps has not much experience in boating, jumped out, but, instead of taking the painter with him, marched up on the sand with the oars. Then Mrs. Rankin, with one foot in the boat and the other on the sand, was holding out the baby for him to take, when the boat slipped back, taking her with it and forcing her to drop the baby in the water. Mr. Rankin picked up the baby, and after, placing it on the sand   went to his wife's assistance. As the boat had drifted into deep water he started to swim for it. He .desisted, however, on hearing Mrs. Rankin's scream that the baby was going towards the water. Returning he was able to   take care of the child but ...
