The Feeding of Houses. The uatural objection by f rmers to purchase foodstuffs for horses, makes the adjustment of the food ration to economy and efficiency even more important than might be the case if the food were being bought outright. Bathurst Experi ment lartn, owing to tlio large area that is always under cultivation, labours under just the same limita tions as ordinary farmers, and, if anything, is perhaps iu a worse posi tion than is* some privately owned farms. Consequently, the horses have to be almost wholly hamlfcd. . During the past year nineteen horses consumed, iu round figures, 31 tons of wheaten hay, 2 tons of oaten bay, 17 tons of lucerne hay, ll tons of wheaten and outcu straw, 495 bushels maize, 25 bushels oats, 135 bushels wheat, 30 bushels mixed barley with rye.
