Germany Wants Meat POLITICAL FACTOR AUSTRALIAN SUPPLIES. [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 11 March 1924

Germany Wants Meat POLITICAL FACTOR AUSTRALIAN SUPPLIES. A fair amount of meat, mainly beef, has been sold in Gerbany dur ing the last few years. Of late theie has been very little doing, because Australian supplies have not been available. ^Sorne Australian export ers believe that* a very considerable trade can be built up. Now comes this cable, published in the 'Daily Telegraph': — 'The view held in meat importing circles in London is that the real rea sons underlying Germany's embargo upon the importation of frozen meat from Australia are not due to rinder pest, as stated, but to political motives, , in the hope of inducing a relxation of Commonwealth restrictions regarding German products and nationals. 'Australia House has obtained per mits for the steamers Opawa and Whak atane to discharge shipments at Ham burg. A HUGE COMPANY. 'An interesting sidelight on the pos sible future course of trade between the two countries is the fact that inquiries are at present being conducted i...
