Survivors of the Mexican War. An effort is about being made to secure for the surviving soldiers of the Mexican war a pension from the government. A meeting is soon to be held in Pittsburgh, for tbe purpose of preparing a form of petition which will be placed in charge of General Negley for presentation to Congress. But comparatively few of those who served in the Mexican war are now living, so that the list cannot be a long one. Many of them entered the army at the breaking out of the rebellion, and a number of the best officers in the service were those who had received their military training on Mexican soil. A large proportion of those who had served in Mfexicfr, and entered the Union army dering the rebellion, fell in battle, or succumbed to the ravages of diseased The claims of the survivors are certainly entitled to every; consideration at the hands of Congress*and Hthe effort is made to secure a pension for them, it will no doubt be .successful.
