b ) Cabbage Salail. Choose a small head of cabbage, firm and heavy. Sbave half of it very fine, cut a head of celery in small pieces, and place all together in a salad bowl. Beat the ydks of 2 eggs with ateaspoonful of mixed mus tard and 2 tcaspbonfuls of salad oil ; add a teaspoonful of salt and 2 of powdered sugar, mix n ell, then stir in half a cup of street cream heated just to the boiling point milk, rich and sweet will an swer, but it is not so good add 3 table spoonfuls of hot vinegar; place on the stove and stir corwantly until it thick ens, when it must be removed instantly as boiling will cause it to curdle. Of Victor Hugo's "History of a Crime,'" 125,000 copies were sold in France in three week?. A Spanish translation, with a preface by Signer Castclar, w ill soon appear. Senator McCreery is said to be ex ceedingly well read inelastic poetry and fiction of the last 60 years, and makes speeches about orango groves, helmetcd knights and other romantic objects. Mark Twain introduced William D. Howell; at the latter'a lecture in Hart ford with the remark that it was un necessary to speak of his literary repu tation; he was merely there to back up the moral character of Mr. Howells. Crawford, a discharged soldier from the United btates army. The man com mitted suicide bv drowning.
