Esqrs Mark and KcDowtu will be in session on the 22dto take a few deposi tions in the matter of the con test. ., ... . . ; . . We learn that Mr. Okdek doss has closed-his depositions. He took a few in Lawrence county, and some in Gallia more ia Meigs and Vinton. He founded his contest upon a Statute passed in 1659, but which was repealed in 1SC5; a Statute that deprived persons having a "visible admixture" of African blood of voting. Mr. 0. had hoped that the Senate would set at naught the decis ions of Ihe Supreme Court, and upon this Statute throw out a number of votes cast by this class ol persons. Since the Gallipolis Journal has furnished him and his Attorneys law up on this matter they have less heart ior the contest, and as we suggested last week, we think Mr. 0. and his friends "have put their foot in ...

Republican National Convention. It is not yet deciJcJ where the Republican National Nomi nating Convention will bo lit'Kl. There is a lively spirit of rival ry going on between several of our Western cities, to induce the Committee to designate their respective city as the lucky pJace. .The chances now seem about equally divided be tween Chicago and Cincinnati, and tho Ileitis becoming unite lively. Chicago lias fll'ercd 15,000 toward defraying tlio ex penses of tho Convention, if it will como there; Cincinnati has offered the same amount; and each city is accusing tho other of bribing individual members of tho National Republican Committee, who have the pow er of naming tho place. Where it will be convened we cannot yet tell, but of course our sympathies and best wish es are for the success of the Queen City.
