"We have feared this all the while on the " part of the republican senate. "We are satisfied their howl at Chicago on this question was hypocritical and sinful. " They have given away 296,000,000 acres of land, enough to make six states nearly the size of Kansas, or land enough to colonize thereon and settle 50,000,000 people, and it is not very likely the land owners and land robbers who sell out so liber ally to .carry out the presidential elections would surrender without a struggle, or that the party would at once turn round and take from them a cool 1,000,000 acres of land. This is about the number of acres that the land barrons have forfeited even under the most liberal con struction of infamous grants.
