The City Charter—Meeting at the St. Louis Exchange.—In compliance with a call for a mee*ing of the citizens to reconsider and amend the City Charter, which was rejected by a majority of 146 votes on the 20th ult. a large and respectable assemblage met on Wednesday evening last for that purpose.— Judge Hastings was called to the chair and Thomas A. Warbass, Esq. appointed secretary. A committee, consisting of seven, was appointed to make such alterations and amendments to the charter as might be deemed requisite, who made their report to an adjourned meeting held on Thursday evening. The Report having been read, a motion prevailed to adopt the charter by sections. Each s*ction was discussed. as a general thing, in a conciliatory spirit, and the charter as amended adopted by the meeting. Died, In this city, on the evening of the 29th ult. of chronic diarrhœa, Col. William L. May of Peoria, Ill. aged about 56 years. Col. Like many of his fellow citizens he left a pleasant and happy home to realize the dreams of the El Dorado ; but alas ! a few weeks of lingering illness closed his earthly career. It may be gratifying to his friends to learn that, though far from home, he had every attention paid him that friendship could bestow. His remains were attended to their final resting place by his friends and acquaintances. ☞ At a large and enthusiastic meeting of the citizens of Fremont, on the Sacramento at its confluence with Feather River, held Oct. 1, 1849, J. E. Brawley, Esq. was called to the Chair and Stephen White appointed secretary. The Chair having stated the object of ...

The fever however in many cases has completely subsided, and in others a few more doses of rain will put them in a fair way of recovery. Radford's company from St. Louis reached here on the 7th, all in fine spirits and getting along well. The Pioneer Line of fast coaches reached here on the 8th — advertised to go through in 70 or 100 days, I forget which — the end of one month finds them but 300 miles on the road. The passengers were loud in denouncing all fast lines and the P...
