Along the stem, mound soil 4 inches deep every 2 feet: roots will form in the mounded soil, increasing the plant’s ability to take in nutrients. Feed and water without fail. If your soil is heavy and moisture retentive, under the developing fruit place a wooden board or other protection to avoid soil contact and possible rot. Or you can grow all but the giants up a sturdy trellis or fence, supporting the fruit in cloth slings. You will have to weave the vines through the trellis every few days to help them climb.
