The adjourned meeting of the City Council, called to try the charge of bribery against Alder- man Henricks, did not meet until 10:30 this morning. There was a large nnmber of citizens present, waiting to bear the evidence. His honor. Mayor Scanlan, called the meeting to order. Secretary Daly called the role, when ail the members responded to their names. Henricks having his counsel—Judge Likens and Winch also present. City Attorney. Masterson was assisted by Col. Manly, for the prosecution. The Colonel commenced by pro- ducing a letter sent by Mayor Hurley to Mayor Scanlan, in response to a demand for the same of the Alderman accused of negotiating the bribe. DAILY MERCURY RADICAL RATIFICATION MEEtlNG. Unheralded by public adver- tisement, the Radicals met at the Market House yesterday evening to ratify the nomination of their candidates, Oar reporter's atten- tion was first attracted to the gathering by the sound of a brass band, blowing its music adjacent to our sanctum. Being on the qui vice, as all our attaches are, he rushed, with paper and pencil, after the music, and brought up in front of^hat magnificent struc- ture known as the Market House, which marks Houston as the only metropolitan city of Texas. On the balcony of that building a crowd of men, got up in the latest fashion, whom faces, like their clothes, were unknown to our citizens, were seated. The colored officials of our city were there in propria persona, but the contrast between the whtte and colored Radicals was marked.
