Thursday, April 28, 2005- THE SACHSE NEWS - Section B - Page 3 Sports iilWlM - 'L ... -J, ' ' . '1 . . Wins put Lady Pirates in playoffs By Mark Largent A pair of outstanding pitching per- formances from Taylor Call, (14-6), this past week tied the Lady Pirates with Poteet and Forney for the lead in the District 11-4A race. Wylie, (21-6-1 overall, 8-2 in dis- trict), moved into the deadlock with a 5-0 road victory over Terrell April 18 and a 23-0 home victory over West Mesquite last Friday. Against the Lady Tigers, Call pitched her second consecutive no- hitter. It was also her second consec- utive no-hitter against Terrell, her first, a 15-0 victory on April I at home. Call's performance was not the only story of the game. The Lady Pirates did not take advantage of opportunities, stranding nine runners on base, including six in the first three innings, and were unable to put Terrell away early. Wylie finally broke open the tight 1-0 game in the seventh inning. ^ Brooke Foster led o...

Page 6- Section B - THE SACHSE NEWS - Thursday, April 28, 2005 HP Scots take down Pirates, 7-4 By Don Finnie The Wylie Pirates had a lot on the line last Friday as the Highland Park Scots visited for an early 4 p.m. game. The Pirates were undefeated at home in district play. Starting pitcher James Parsons was also undefeated in district play. But Highland Park had momen- tum of its own, sporting an 8-0 dis- trict record and the area's No. 1 ranking. Wylie took a big lead in the first inning on a Seth Robinson grand slam, but errors would hurt the Pirates, and they eventually lost, 7- 4. The Scots got things going in the fifth inning, trailing 4-1. First, a run- ner reached first base via a fielding error on a bunt. The next three bat- ters doubled, singled, and walked to tic the game, 4-4, at the end of five. There was more trouble for the Pirates in the sixth, as a walk and an error put two runners on base for Highland Park. One run scored on a passed ball, and another on a single ...
