Crown Lands Settlement. [Newspaper Article] — Hopetoun Courier and Mallee Pioneer — 3 April 1914

Crown Lands Settlement At the A.N.A. conference afc Wangaratta last week Mr. A. L. Bussiiu (Warracknabeal) moved— "That this conference affirms the desirability of approaching Parlia ment to grant greater facilities to suitable poisons in selecting and obtaining Crown Lands, in order to prevent the emigration of land seekers from Victoria." He said that unfortunately for the State the activities of Parliament had been directed towards the closer settlement scheme, ami thousands of pounds had been frittered away. The State had over looked the fact that thore were millions of acres of agricultural and grazing Crown lands available. Because these areas had been secured without cost they had been neglected. Men who could develop them had been driven from the State; Some sons of farmers and farm laborers hail applied personally more tlian twenty timea fov laud, and had been rejected. Mr. Tontcher, M.L.A. MAKE YOUR DISTRICT KNOWN. [Newspaper Article] — Hopetoun Courier and Mallee Pioneer — 10 April 1914

MAKE fOUR DISTRICT KNOWN. • Concerning some parts of the dis trict news comes but seldom. This is not entirely our fault; we have no miraculous power of knowing what is happening at all the places within our area of circulation. It is the fault of residents in'tho silent places. Will some man or woman take the matter in hand and cause the silence to cease. If no one is doing it for your district, will you try on these lines? Send accounts of public and social events in your township and neigh borhood, such as weddings, deaths, accidents, concerts, matters touching district industries, etc. Write tho uames of persons very distinctly. Don't bother about grammar or spelling ? it's the editor's work to look atter those trifles. The barest skeleton is enough. Write only on one side of the paper. . Gi veinformation; but let criticism alone. .. "Write your name and arlrlrpss on same corner—not for publication, but to prove good faith",
