COLONIAL EXTRACTS. [Newspaper Article] — Ipswich Herald & General Advertiser — 21 June 1861

COLONIAL EXTRACTS. THa LATE STASBDIN CaSE AT DAaBL? GHw ST Goa..--John Bobberts, who was stabbed in Darlinghmst gaol on Tuesday, by his fellow prisoner, William Shearman, is still alive. His chances of recovery are slightly improved; but his wound is a fearful one, as may be understood when we state that the knife, after penetrating his chest, entered his lungs. The unnfortunate man complains chiefly of pains in the intestines, caused, no doubt, by the excessive internal hemorrhage from which he had first saffered. Dr. West is of opinion that Sheerman was, and is still suffering Iromddiriuma tremens. He is under treatment as a lunatic. Since running the muck on Tuesday,ho has eaten nothing, neither does he sleep, but wanders all night long up and down his cell. His only desire is to be per mitted to smoke, a privilege the Pcotor has pro mised to concede if the wretched man .take some food.--Empire. MKssueo.-On May 11th (says the Armidale Epress) Mr. Henry Alexander, some time pre vi...

THE ENGLISH MAIL. [Newspaper Article] — Ipswich Herald & General Advertiser — 21 June 1861

THE ENGLISH MAILa. We take the following from the Home News : ITALY. It has long been known that important differ. ences existed between Garibaldi and Cavour; but it was not till eight days ago that those two great meni took up publicly an attitude of direct personal antagonism. At the dare of of our last impression Garibaldi was still at Caprera. lie left that island for Turin on March 31. After his arrival at the Sardinian capital, where he was received with boundless enthusiasm, he was confined to the house for about a foltni:ight with an acute attack of rheu matism; but on April 18th he was able to take his seat in the Italian Parliament in his capacity as one of the representatives of Naples. Meanwhile he had mdce no secret of the purpose which he had chiefly at heart. That purpose was to secure, if possible, ts juit rights to the volunteer army with which he had conquered the Two Sicilios. Since the annexa tion of Naples to Sardinia the 'GOaribaldians had, it appeared to him, ...
