The Show—from a Casual Point of View. [Newspaper Article] — Canowindra Star and Woodstock Recorder — 18 April 1902

The Show — from a Casual Point of View. By S. E. NAPIER. We arrive — in Company. — The Great Show is on and we — in common with some sixty or seventy-thousand other important people, a goodly proportion of whom, il' one may place reliance on the ewcalyptine odour which appears to emanate from their direc tion. are of the genus backblockii — after a somewhat heated and unpleasant journey in a congested train car, aud a sardine-like passage through the turnstiles, lind our selves at last arrived within the omnivorous and, apjwrently, insatiable portals of the Agricultural (iround. Having accomplish ed so much, we pause to remove the honest perspiration from our brows what time* we decide upon our method of attack. What shall we see first? *, we ask our selves. There are so many objects of at traction to make selection from. An Offer to Inventors. [Newspaper Article] — Canowindra Star and Woodstock Recorder — 18 April 1902

An Offer to Inventors. | A novel special prize of dt'5 5s. was offered I this year by Ml'. Fred. Walsh, patent agent, I of Elizabeth-street, Sydney. The award was I to go to the invention patented during the i twelve months ending 31st March. 1902, of j Australia,, origin, which conferred the most important and the greate'.'t benefit on indus- 1 tries of any kind in this State. Eight | entries were received, one being a patent chaH-cutter, another a pollard distributor, j another a prickly-penr' destructor ; but the honours were won by a remarkable kerosene lamp, patented by the ' Shell ' Oil Company, to whom the prize was awarded. This lamp appears to prefer shedding its light under the influence of n gale of wind, for, when the i draught from a motor fan was turned upon it, the only effect was to slightly increase the brilliance of tiie light. Such an invention should be of incalculable benefit to all country residents.

JERSEYS. [Newspaper Article] — Canowindra Star and Woodstock Recorder — 18 April 1902

Jr.usi.vs. The most notable lact in the Jersey section was the great success of Mr. George T. Chirnside in winning the champion bull and champion cow, beating such old anil well-known dairy exhibitors as Dr. Hay, Mr. Morton, and Sir. F. A. Wright. Mr. Chirnside is perhaps the best breeder in Victoria, and his stock are therefore among the best in the sister SUitc. What has been done at the Sydney show is that Victoria has beaten New South Wales, in her own| territory with Jersey cattle. The winning bull is named Golden J,;nl II., of silvery black colour, a most beautiful little animal, with not a ilaw in his whole composition. He was bred by Mr. Chirnside, and is 2 years and 1 1 months old. The reserve champion bull this year was found in Cherry' Pride, who won the championship last year, ami is also owned by Mr. Chirnside. The champion eow boars the name Ijotus Lily, and was imported from St. Breladcs, Island of, Jersey, where she was bred by Mr. J. H. Orange. She is a very light y...

DAIRY CATTLE. [Newspaper Article] — Canowindra Star and Woodstock Recorder — 18 April 1902

DAIRY CATTLE. No better criterion of the growing im- 1 portancc of the great dairying industry] can be found than the marked improve- 1 incut each year shows in the exhibit of j these breeds. Exhibitors are in greater i variety than is to be found in other sections. ! though such breeders as Mr. P. 11. Morton j and Dr. John Hay are well represented on the catalogue. Avusiiirks. Mr. Morton was successful iu winning ; the championship for Ayrshire bulls and also for Ayrshire cows. His bull, Russley. i secured this coveted honor, and a more ? perfect animal in tbe dairy line it would i be difficult to find anywhere. He claims all the bestfpoints of a dairy bull, showing ! careful and aristocratic breeding in every! feature. Russley was bred by Messrs. Charles Lnmond's 'Bridesmaid,' 2 years, Dairy Cow, in calf. Second Trine. M'Nab Brothers (winners of last year's 'championship), of Victoria, and has the blood of the Oakbanks woil represented in his veins. The champion cow was Dr. Hay's ...

The lamp is connected by a Ion g flexible connection, and when lighted gives off a steady heat, very acceptable in pains of the chest and abdomen as well ? ? 1 ? ? A As lnn-r t»D BBUTttiglU vi as the lamp is alight the heat continues, and does not decrease as is the case of a hot-water bottle. This little hint may prove of service to those having the electric current at their disposal, but care must be taken to prevent burning.
