SIGNS OF PROSPERITY. [Newspaper Article] — Sunbury News and Bulla and Melton Advertiser — 4 March 1893

S!GNS OF PIOSPERITY. " You will pardon me, sir," said Hungry Walker to the man with the dress suit and the white waistcost. " Go away i I don't want to buy any court plaster." " Sir, you are rash and impetuous. A square inch of this golatinized silk which I daily vend here might save your life." " Get out, you pink-whiskered fraud!" " But, sir, pray consider. You have plenty ----" " Well, go on." " Anybody can wear a dress suit. They are expensive, it is true, but they last for years The msn who wears a white waist coat in the evening must have a brand new dress suit. Nobody wears a rusty dress suit with a white waistcoat. You have a white waistcoat, therefore your dress suit is not rusty, and as you must have boug t it only a short time ago, you have money. "A man who wears a new dress suit must stand in with his tailor, and the man who has a white waistcoat must have a No. I rating with his washerwomau. Sir: you are at peace with your tailor and washerwoman. You have been strange!...

HOME NURSING. [Newspaper Article] — Sunbury News and Bulla and Melton Advertiser — 4 March 1893

HOME NURSING. It is most important that all women shou:d understand the simple but import ant rules to be observed in nursing. Of course there are some people who would never be able to nurse p.tienis, no matter what training they had gone through. To be a good nurse, the chief attributes rcquired are presence of mind and seif control. A person who is nervous, or gets fiHrried, should never be allowed to attend en a Eic pnereon, as it is absolutely neces there are some women whose mere pres ence seems to exercise a soothing efilect: they move about softly, and the touct of their hands or the sound of their voice will comfort and allay the pain that the sutferer masy be undergoing. Another very neces sary quality in a good nurse is cheerful ness, nothing is so depressing to a patient as the sight of a face that never seems to smiie; toe ellffect of a bright cheerful nurse on a sicil person is like a ray of sunshine cominginto a dark room, it makes every thuog seem brighter and more h...

Be ]usi aný 1' Fear not. SUNBUiRY, SA U1i)AY. MAncn. .4th, 189., Ax the last meeting of the Bulla Shire Council, Councillor Starkie carried .a motion authorising the engineer, to report as to the most practicable and profitable way of supplying Sunbury with 18 or -20 street lamps. We greatly commend the idea, as the want has been a long-felt one indeed. That such an important and prosperous township has been allowed to remain in darkness for such a considerable per:od is the wonder to us. However, as the old adage has it, " better late than never, we trust that now the thin wedge has been placed in the thick one wil1 promptly follow.
