WHITTLESEA SWIMMING POOL Co-operation Between Engineer And League BANK TO FINANCE COMPLETION OF PROJECT [Newspaper Article] — Eltham and Whittlesea Shires Advertiser — 16 February 1940

WHIITLUESEA SWIMMING POOIL Co-operation Between Engineer And League BANK TO FINANCE COMPLETION OF PROJECT Although a deputation representing the Whittlesea Ratepayers' and Residents' League which waited on Whittlesea Council on Wednesday to discuss the swimming pool described the work as "very slipshod for the amount of money expended" and criticised certain items' of expenditure, it appears that all differences of opinion on the Pool will be smoothed out following a conference between League representatives and the Shire En gineer (Mr. H. Griffiths). The speakers expressed the opinion that had the Engineer co operated with their representatives, many pin pricks would not have oc curred. Councillor McDonald, pointed out, however, that it was the former engineer (Mr. Williams) who had been instructed to meet the League. representatives, not Mr. Griffiths. Mr. Griffiths told the deputation that, having attended one meet ing of the League and having told the members that he was at thei...

Warrandyte KNAPSACK SPRAYS WANTED FOR FIRES [Newspaper Article] — Eltham and Whittlesea Shires Advertiser — 16 February 1940

Warrandyte KNAPSACK SPRAYS WANTED FOR FIRES Eltham Council decided to take no action in response to the request of the Warrandyte Bush Fire Brigade   that the Council assist it in provid- ing additional knapsack sprays for fighting bush fires. Mr. Tingate said the brigade al- ready had 20 such sprays, but want- ed 100. It was pointed out that other fire brigades did not have anything like 20 sprays, and that Warrandyte was lucky to have so many. Councillor Clarke said that all the brigades in the Shire were short of funds, and they all had to supply their own equipment. Councillor McLellan: Hurstbridge Brigade is very badly off for sprays. We are relying on the sprays owned by the Shire which have been put under control of the foreman.

Whittlesea CHRIST CHURCH NEWS [Newspaper Article] — Eltham and Whittlesea Shires Advertiser — 16 February 1940

Whittlesea CHRIST CHURCH NEWS Harvest Thanksgiving Services were held recently in the Parish. Some of the parishioners showed their thanks by giving of their goods and by attending the services. Hymns suitable to the occasion were sung heartily, whilst there were special prayers. The Vicar based his ad- dress on God's message given by the Prophet Joel "I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten." In years long ago there were scourges, calamities, and invading armies. There was the wail of the hungry and the dying. There was destructive years in the history of nations. The mania for gambling, impurity and war consuming the toil of thousands of people. The Christian life of, a church people may be thrown back in six months through the spirit of mis- chief getting in. An 'individual who has had long years of teaching and of prayer may suddenly through giving way to one's wishes and desire- , become a spirit ual bankrupt.
