Aids Talk condoms by Carl Dabler Sitting cross legged on her bed, just dressed in an old gray tee shirt and a pair of blue running shorts, Patty was having one of those long talks with her good friend Lia. Lia was half leaning and half sitting on Patty's desk listening attentively to what Patty had to say. "I just don't know what's up with Tony anymore," Patty said with perplexity written all over her face. "I really love the big brute, even when he tries to pull a big macho routine on me." The whole time she's talking she is playing with her long chestnut colored hair, wrapping it around her index finger. _ ., "What do you mean, you don't know what's up with Tony anymore" asks Lia with her blue eyes staring down on Patty. "Well, you know Tony and I have been going together for the last two years and we've gotten really close—you can even say I love him. Last Friday night after the party was over at the Bridge House, we went back to his apartment down in Wesleyville like we ...

Robert Monahan Reflects on Beginning by Denise Cutruzzula Collegian Staff Writer Forty years ago, the first freshman class was enrolled with the opening of the Behrend center. These freshmen, not unlike you and I, must have been excited at the prospect of leaving home and entering the world of independence. One of the freshman in the class of 1948 remains a part of Behrend College today. Robert E. Monahan, a Behrend Freshman in 1948, is now an accounting professor. Monahan took his first year of College at what was then known as the Behrend Extension Center of the Pennsylvania State College. Before he was enrolled he spent time watching the transformation of what had been a barn into Tumbull Hall. "As I think of that building now, I wonder if its builder could have ever been persuaded to believe that it was destined to become one of the most utilitarian structures created by man," said Monahan. In 1948 the building had 5 classrooms ~ all that was needed for Behrend's 152 stude...

Ask Louanne DearLouanne, I'm furious!! The other night I came back to my room to find the door locked, my blow dryer, curling iron, and toothbrush on the floor outside the door with a note, "Jim's spending the night Can you sleep with (the R.A.)?" This is the second time this has happened, and I almost opened the door and walked in, but I would be too embarrassed. What should I do? Dear Homeless, Your first instinct was probably a good one. You should have walked in. Your roommate sure has guts. My guess is you would have been more embarrassed than she and Jim. Your rights are being violated. I suggest you try telling her how you feel. If confrontation is hard for you; Practice you speech with your R.A. or me. You'll feel better about yourself and your toothbrush won't get so dirty. DearLouanne, Being here at Behrend is really hard for me. I'm the oldest daughter and I guess I feel I was the glue that held my family together. I think my mother may be an alcoholic, but she won't...

Non-Traditional Student Bob Kreitzbender accomplishment Bob is enrolled in the School of Business and is majoring in accounting. He is carrying a full course load this semester with Political Science, Intermediate Accounting, Intermediate Economics, Art, Labor and Industrial Relations, and Qualitative Business Analysis. The business classes are his favorites and he is working toward a MBA in Business and would eventually like to teach business on the college level. Although it has been 27 years since he last attended classes, Bob has earned 43 credits while maintaining a 3.73 QPA. He attributes this success to being out in the world for 27 years and the knowledge he has acquired during this time. This knowledge helps him relate on a more personal level to what is being taught. He also devotes much more of his time to studying because he knows the importance of a good education and is grateful for this second chance. by Millicent E. Lions 1 Soccer: _^d Down by Missy Mace Collegian Staff Writer Every athletic team has its times of celebration and its times of let down. The greatest accomplishment of any team is obtaining the _ability to enjoy the celebrations and survive the let downs. If and when this is accomplished, the goal of the athlete is reached. The Behrend soccer team has had their share of celebrations as well as let downs. After six tough games, the Behrend soccer team has a 3-3 record. They are having a decent season thus far and are still improving. They've held themselves up during their let downs and kept their heads on straight through their celebrations. There are times when teams just play bad. There are no special reasons other than things do not go the way they should. The Behrend soccer team has experienced these frustrating times. They played well against Niagara, but were defeated 2-0. Their other two defeats were against Fredonia and Geneva. They lost to Fredonia 3-1. Things just...

Zimmerman Confident About Lions' Success by Todd J. _Irwin Collegian Staff Writer The Men's Basketball team will have a little over a month from when they begin practice on October 15 until their first game of the season. In all that time, though, the Lions will not even be able to work on their biggest problem this year. Once again a lack of experienced players is haunting yet another Behrend coach. This time, though, it has met its match. Coach Doug Zimmerman is in his sixteenth year of coaching basketball and this year marks his sixth season at Behrend. He has the experience his players lack and they will have to rely on that until they gain their own. This young team will be centered around four returning players who have game experience. Sophomores Rick Demski, forward, and Randy Baughman, guard, along with seniors Bob Minford and Joe Weed, both guards, will be at the foundation of this year's Lions' squad. Weed, who started his sophomore year but sat out last year due to...
