The main points of attack are : —That girls will not help their weary , overtasked mothers in tbe household affairs ; that girls are fond of dress and think of nothing else besides ; and that tbeir principal object in life is to secure a rich husband . O , dear . BUBAL , how can they 1 I do not like housework . You may think I am proving the truth of what has been asserted by our enemies . Wait . Dear Utile Friends . —You remember a few weeks since ! told you the story about Lion ; how he was harnessed up and ran away , and tipped Gerty off the sled into the show . Well , when it was almost night , he came back home , with the bells still upon his neck , and a few bits of the harness banging to him , and looking as much ashamed as It is possible for a dog to look . He hung his head , and tucked his tall close between bis legs , and could not look Master Louis in the face . . Louis scolded him while he was taking off the bells and what there was left of tbe harness , telling him he should have no supper . Lion seemed to understand every word he said , and whined , and licked his hand , saying in his dogqi & U way , that he was very sorry , and that no rabbit , however fat , should ever tempt him to do the like again As Louis was ...

THE POULTRY YARD [Newspaper Article] — Western Rural — 28 March 1868

THE POULTRY YARD which Breed of Fowls ? A correspondent asks us for our preference as to the various breeds of chickens . This we have kept no secret , but have talked right out ln meeting many a time and much to the chagrin of some of . those who have all , and especially other varieties to sell . We have tried about half a dozen kinds ; the Eastern kinds we never had the least opinion of , and conseauently were satisfied that other people should try them , as they seemed determined to do . Of course there are various fancies and various opinions ; but we prefer the Dominique . . There are , we believe , three varieties of them—there may be more . We select tbe medium sire , pn-e yellow-legged , and single combed . They are beautiful , extremely docile , never fly , seldom scratch , are excellent layers and mothers , fatten easily , and are plump and as good as any to eat . —Qermantown Telegraph . Profits of Poultry . I send you an account of my success with poultry the past year ....
