Smelting Meat. Id tbe home smoking of meat I have learned something by experimenting ' that is a great saver of work and of much more consequence—keeps the meat in better shape during the smok ing process. I used a low smokehouse, and. handle the little necessary fire as best I could. It would sometimes heat the meat more than was good for it I had the fire covered In a little pit In' the center of the smokehouse. Then I tried a pit outside several feet from the building with an underground flu?, but all the heat generated In that went Into the smokehouse, so It was unsat isfactory. I placed an old heating stove, with the legs takpn off. on the ground about eight feet from the side of the smoke house, put an elbow on the stove and ran a pipe in through the side of the smokehouse. Then I started a llttte Are In the stove, and as the smoke poured from the funnel it occurred to roe to turn the smoke down, so I put on an elbow with mouth pointing down, and as that worked all right I put...

SUPPLEMENT THAT BOY OF YOURS. (The following sermon was deliver ed by Rev. 0. I. Bennett, pastor of the Christian ehuch, on Sunday even ing, Sept. has been omitted from the foregoing issues for lack of space, but by the request of the public it will now appear.) The subject to-night is the conclus ion of the series of sermons of the young men of the bible. THE CHARITY GIRL By EFFIE A. ROWLANDS CHAPTER XVl.—(Continued.) The Duke of Harborough was making aa almost regal procession with his new danghtfer-fn-law. He had come up just as Audrey was clasping her mother's hand, and when he caught eight of the girl's face he whistled. "Jack, my boy, you're In lnck," he cried, and then nothing would do but Audrey must walk away with him and be introduced all round. "The girl is a lady from head to foot, and what a face! Charity girl, Indeed! Where's Gladys, I wonder?" and then the wicked old man chuckled to himself as he meditated a plan to annoy Lady Daleswater. So with Audrey, laughing heartily at his sallies, he walked straight up to his daughter, whose cold eyes were resting with distinct approval on the slender, white-robed figure. "Gladys, my dear, here is some one you must know. This young lady has quite taken my heart by storm! I be lieve she will leave a whole one when she goes away." "That is easily understood," remarked Lady Daleswat...
