King of the firm of Thiel-Dorman & King of this city returned Sunday morning from Kansas City where lie went as one of the Washington repre sentatives to the head camp of Modern Woodmen of America which convened in Kansas City on June 6th, holding a five days session. TOWN AND COUNTY. Hangiko too Good.—The miscreant who cut the rope on the well drill of M. F. Cochran who is boring the city well on College hiU if caught should be dealt with severely. Hanging is too good (or such a wnetch, lie should he kicked out of the county. Had not the eritieal eye of Mr. Cochran dis covered the matter in time nil the good work done this far might have b»n for naught. The well is now 350 feet in depth with 150 feet of water but it is doubtful if there is suf ficient supply to stand the 5000 gal lons per hour test for one year as pro vided in the .contract with city and the well will be sunk deeper until L~-iiUch «upply is found. Drowsed in Spirit Lake.—Miss Lottie Brook, aged 20, and Miss Dottie Porter, aged 24, both ot Spokane, lost Ahetr lives in Spirit lake, twelve miles i northeast of that city, on July 18 at .3:30 p. in. They were in company With Miss McCalluni, Frederick Cham berlain and H. M. Mosely, all of Spo kane. They started to row across the Jake in a rowboat. All were dressed in their bathing suits and exacted to spend thu afternoon at the beach. After they we'e out a short distance the boat was overturned and the oc cupants thrown into tluJ water. Their cries for help were plainly heard at! the island, and several _ boats started' -iffr-oiioe for the rescue. TOWN AND COUNTY. Charged With Coal Stealing.— Sunday night six tons of coal was thrown from a freight train along the track between the water tank and Greene's warehouse. Ag<*nt L. E. ifaskill swore to a complaint and Mon day warrants were issued far Ed. F. McMahon, Pat Kyley, C. A. Bills and Joe Smith under the charge of grand larceny and placed in the hands of Sheriff H. E. Hill. Smith and Kyley were apprehended at once and on Tuesday were arraigned before Justice of the Peace F.P. French where Kyley waived examination and was placel tinder $500 bonds to appear at the next htern of the superior court. Smith's case was continued until WeJnesJ.iy morning. A separate charge was filed against Pat Kyley for undertaking to escape from officers and resisting ar rest. His case was heard by Justice W. S.
