In another column will le, found a no tic for a meeting of the citizens of Sar py County, for the purpose of taking into consideration the propriety of petitioning the President for a postponement of the sale of the Public Lands in this Distsicl. We have now on board over five hun dred miles; on board tho Agamemnon they have between six and seven hundn' miles, but it U not coiled as well as the ca ble onboard this vessel. The machinery for paying out the cable will be completed in a few days, when it is the intention of tlio directors to unite engineers of known ability to inspect it while in operation. This is, in my opin ion, all very well so far as it goes ; but no engineer in England, or in America, can give an unbiassed opinion unless he ees its operation nt sea.
