Forreit tgtlnit Forreit—The Finale of t Grand Drama In Real Life. [Newspaper Article] — Marysville Daily Appeal — 2 February 1860

Forreit tgtlnit Forreit—The Finale of t Grand Drama In Real Life. Ibe fJaUg Appeal. We give, in another part of our impression to-day, a copy of the report of the referee, Mr. Alvin C. Bradley, who was appointed under a judgment of the Superior Court, obtained more than three years ago, to ascertain the exact state of accounts between the parties in the celebrated Forrest divorce case. This famous cause was tried in 1850, and the jury gave a verdict in favor of Mrs. Forrest awarding alimony at the rate of 53,000 per an- i num. Mr. Forrest, dissatisfied with this award, appealed, and all possible means i were resorted to by his counsel. Mr. John Van Buren, to obtain a new trial. All I Mr. Van Buren's tactics were met with ! equal acuteness by Mr. Charles O'Conor. i Mrs. Forrest's senior counsel. To those ' who take an interest in the turnings and j windings, the quips and quirks, we were almost going to say the absurdities of the law, the contest was exceedingly enter- j taining. The...

Overland Daily Mall via Salt Lake. [Newspaper Article] — Marysville Daily Appeal — 3 February 1860

Overland Daily Mall via Salt Lake. Ihe Haiti! Appeal. The Washington correspondent of the ■ ( Bulletin, recently made reference to a rui mored movement for changing the route f of the Great Butterfield Overland Mail, in I order to strengthen and materially shorten it. Our correspondent ventured the ; surmise, also, that the Butterfield and the I Salt Lake interests may be consolidated ■ with the view to the establishment of a f single daily Over Land Mail in place of > the two named, and by a route which | should be truly central. We regret that later advices bring no confirmation of ' these rumors, because wc believe that a movement likethatabove suggested would % strengthen greatly our overland mail system in Congress, besides vastly improving the excellent service which the butterfield Company is already rendering us. • The route of the great Overland Mail • certainly ought to be shortened, it is now several hundred miles longer than the Salt Lake route, and for that r...

line flail]) appeal. AMENDE HONORABLE.— We i; put our foot in," essentially, u few days ago, when we disputed the qualifications of our friend the junior editor of the Sentinel, to discuss the etymology of the word '-lullaby," on the ground that he bad no nusery experience. We retract, withdraw, recede, apologize—in fact, we fly in all directions! That nefarious and sanguinary individual the junior aforesaid, is the editor, proprietor and publisher of a bouncing boy of four years, and has large misery experience, from the little pink two days old, to the bouncing boy named ; and knows all about "lullaby," and rockaby, and pap spoons, and embroidered flannel, soft as thistle down, and cradles, and ba-by-jumpers, and ium to papa 011 his little feety-peety, and miracles of caps, and baby gowns three times the length of the baby, and portentous pataloons, and pleasant breezes, and squalls, and teething, and measles, and paregoric, and rideypidey, and little lumps of fingers and little w...
