STATE OF THE WEATHER[?] FROM 28th NOV. TO 5th DEC. 1825. [Newspaper Article] — Hobart Town Gazette — 10 December 1825

STATE OF THE WEATHER, From 28th NOV. TO 5th DEC. 1825. Themometer Barometer   from to from to       Wind. Result. THE erection of this Colony into a dis-   tinct and separate Independency, which   was solemnized on Saturday, is a glorious and an important era in the annals of its history. Every true Colonist feels joy unmixed upon the occasion ; and, to the remotest corner of the Island, will contri- bute his part, to confirm and to exalt that rank and character, which His Majesty's Ministers are ready to allow; we are about to maintain in the eyes of the world. No other feeling will henceforth subsist between us and Sydney than that generous emula- tion, which is the liveliest and surest incentive, of the mutual improvement of both. MISCELLANY, ORIG[?]NAL AND SELECT. [Newspaper Article] — Hobart Town Gazette — 10 December 1825

MISCELLANY, ORIG NAL AND SELECT. Barron Field, Esq. F. L. S. in his Memoirsof these Colonies, just published,     says, "This is the country where it is summer with us, when it is winter in Europe, and vice versa,-where the barometer rises before bad weather, and falls before good.-where the north is the hot wind, and .the south the cold,- where the humblest house is fitted up with cedar,-where the fields are fenced with mahogany, and myrtle trees are burnt for fire wood,-where the swans are black, and the eagle's white,-where the kan- garoo, an animal between the squirrel and the deer has five claws on its fore paws, and three talons on its hind legs, like a bird, and yet hops on its tail,--where the mole lays eggs, and has a duck's bill, where there is a bird with a broom in its mouth, instead of a tongue,-where the pears are made of wood, with a stalk at the broader end,-where the cherry grows with the stone at the outside." To the Editor. [Newspaper Article] — Hobart Town Gazette — 17 December 1825

To the Editor             Sir, I beg leave to correct a state- ment in the Gazette a few weeks ago regarding the mimosa bark, five tons of which were made and extracted by Messrs. Petchey & Wood, who are said to have "originated and brought into public use this valuable article of export" for which they received a Gold Medal from the Society of Arts in 1825. Without wishing to take away from the merit of Messrs Petchey & Wood, I wish to state that Mr Thomas Kent was the originator of this article, and that I some years afterwards erected an establishment in Bisch's Bay where a considerable quantity of the extract of mimosa bark was made and shipped in 1821, for the Isle of France, to be for- warded to London, provided it did not answer the Mauritius market. However, on my arrival in that Island in 1822 I found that it had proved a most valuable production and had been sold to great advantag...
