Mirboo North. [Newspaper Article] — Morwell Advertiser — 27 October 1888

Mirboo North. --------0------ (BY OUR OWN REPORTER.) I was struck on visiting this townshlip the other day, by the rapid progress it has made in the last two years. Churches, various places of business, a newspaper office. Mechanics' Institute, and private dwelling houses have all arisen in that time. Two years ago it was a ragged enough looking little railway hamlet, while   now it has been assumed the dimensions of a very respectable township evidently the centre of a considerable and increasing trade. Looking round for the causes of this evident prosperity I found that they   were not far to seek. The forests that surround Mirboo on every sidle, the surpassing fertility of the soil throughout the greater part of thie adjacent district, real measures which underline the whole of it, are all factors of actual and potential wealth, through their resources have, as yet, hardly been taken note of, much less developed. Mr. Sargeant is now con structing an iron...

THE ELECTORAL BILL. [Newspaper Article] — Morwell Advertiser — 3 November 1888

.THE- ELECTORAL BILL. We .are, at last, able to infonu our readers that the clauses of the Electoral Bill affecting Gippsland have all been passed. The names of the electorates ]Jave been altered in accordance with the wishes o.f the Gippsland public, and the ltame of G'plpsland has been preserved in connection with each of the five 'electorates into which the new province is now divided, with a distinguishing prefix : West, south, central, north or east, as the case required. This is as it •.should be. One of tile few things vlichl the public expressed dissatisfac 'tioi" with was the proposal of the 'Electoral Bill to take away from us the 'distinctive; and popular appellation of Giippslandi substituting therefor Alber Iton. Warragul, &c. The name of our Slectorate is to be South Gippsland, and not :Allierton, as was originally con tetnplated by the Bill, or Traralgon .1lberton, as our Traralgon friends were lesirdts'of christening it.
