FAIRFIELD MUNICIPAL ELECTION. [Newspaper Article] — The Biz — 8 December 1928

FAIRFIELD MUNICIPAL ELECTION. Great interest was shown in thu municipal election held ? last Satur day judging by the crowd that waited outside the Fairfield Coun cil Chambers to hear the result. Long before 9 p.m. people began to wend their way to the "counting house." but it was not until about 11.IS that figures were available. Mr. Torry Edwards kept the crowd in a happy mood with his "official results," some of the can didates totals running into hundreds of thousands. In fact, we had all the latest cricket scores, cable news etc. But he fairly "brought the house down" when he announced that "The Biz" was leading, having obtained the highest total-£.s.d. he meant, of course. Mr. George Davis (town clerk) then annuonced the correct results, and as the hour was late there was not much time for ?speeches. Each candidate, elected and de feated, returned thanks and all de parted for home shortly before mid-night.

Fashion To-day FEMINITY WITHOUT FIRLLS THE NEW IDEAL. [Newspaper Article] — The Biz — 8 December 1928

Fashion To-day FEMINITY WITHOUT FIRLLS THE NEW IDEAL. (By Barbara Winslow.) A WIDE SCABF. Of the frock material, and lined with white, is a feature of this model. Two side pockets, are inserted into the scarf, and these are lined with white. ' The frock, which is sleeve less, is plain except for the side pleats and yoke of white. A NOVEL JUMPER. Of cherry-coloured crepe de chene combines with a white flannel skirt plaided in cherry. The jumper ex ploits many modish points, among which are the tightened hipline, long scarf tie, and slit effect on each side, through which a strip of the skirt material peeps. There is absolutely nothing of mannishncss in the mode of- the pres ent time. Even the tailleur must have a feminine touch. But this whole-hearted return to feminity is a pitfall to the unwary. There is the possibility of becoming too "frilly"-and when ultra fril liness comes in at the door, smart ness flies out of the window. To combat this tendency, fashion arranges herself gene...

THE WIVES WHO WERE MASTERS [Newspaper Article] — The Biz — 8 December 1928

THE WIVES WHO WERE MASTERS An old knight invited all the ten ants on his estate to a dinner, and when they were seated he was afraid that the meal could not begin till the man who ruled his wife sang a song. The men looked at one anther, each indicating that he was willing to let a neighbour have the honour of singing, and it was only after a considerable amount of time had been wasted in these niceties that one man stood up to sing. When it was done the old knight said: "Now will the woman who rules her husband sing us a song?" And without a moment's delay all the women present fell to singing at the top of their voices, such a ter rible caterwauling had never been heard in that part of the country or anywhere else before. "I was'iilurnu'il lliis morniiif;. r "When?" "Oli. aboul spvon-tliii'ly."
