ACCEPTING the nose a9 occupying, in nioit cases, a prominent position in tlic facial economy-at tlio sourco of much pleasure, or annoyance, as the case may be-as the feature by which mankind is very generally described, and upon which organ any intended indignity is wreaked or tweaked it is certainly worthy of reflection and comment. Noses may bo generally classified under three characters-Roman or aquiline, Grecian or classic, and Phidian or " pug," though of course there are and have been, in all history monstrosities, variations, limes natural of this kind, and some present the appearance of having been put on warm.and run all over the face. The Roman is of the bold cheese-knife pattern, something like the honorable nose of tlio lion. SANDRIDGE POLICE COURT. Thursday, December 10, 1868. (Before Mr. Mollison, P.M., and Messrs. Swal low and TliomaB J.IVs) desertion.-Marcus Hildebrand, a sailor on board the American ship, "Montana," was charged with desertion. From the evidence, it appeared that the prisoner left the ship about a week ago and took his clothing with him. Infor mation was given to the police, and the prisoner was arrested in a boarding-house in King-street, Melbourne. The prisoner made no defence, and was ordered to bo sent to the hulks for four weeks. , Dismissed.-"William M'Grrath, a boarding hou.-c keeper, was charged with harbouring the previous prisoner, knowing him to be a deserter. Mr. Byrne appeared for tho prosecution, and Mr. Kca.l for the defendant. After hearing tho evi dence, Mr. Mollison stated that the bench were of opinion that the evidence was not conclusive as to the prisoner knowing that Ilildebrand was a deserter, and dismissed the case..
