TRhA LGOU. (FROM OUR OWN COIRESPONDENT.) Wednesday, 11th Feb. I have absolutely no news to tell you this week except that the improvements at the station are so nearly completed that the goods shed will shortly be used for the pur poses for which it was built. The accom mnodation on the passenger side of the station is very inadequate, some additions and im provements being much needed. The health of the place ic, generally speak ing, good for the time of year; but I hear of ai few cases'of scarletina of a mild form. Our Mechanics' Institute has been much improved in appearance by a cont of paint; and I am pleased to be able to say that the attendance at the reading-room is increasing. The Councilheld its tirstordinary meeting to-day, but as your reporter was present I need not touch upon the business transacted.

CAPTAIN JOHN DANE AT WARRAGUL. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 12 February 1880

CAPTAIN JOHN DANE AT WAlIRAGUL. Captain Dane addressed the electors from the balcony of the Royal Hotel, Warragul, on Monday evening, about 150 being present. Hre said that his published address explained his rea sons for coming forward. He referred to the Reform Bill as a ridiculous measure, and said that when Mr. Berry went home with that bill in his pocket, he had been told that this co lony had a Constitution Act, which he would have to make the best of. Mr. Berry was of opinion that farmers and countrymen generally had no idea of figures, but such was not thecase. He was sure every person present knew enough about firures to enable him to arrive at the conclusion that he would not be able to afford the loss of a day now and then to give his vote on the questions of the day, which 'ought to be decided by the Legislative body, which he would have to do if the pile biscite was brought into existence. If the Lower House had sole control of money matters, there would be no end to co...
