Messrs. Anthony Hordern & Sons' Pavilion. [Newspaper Article] — Canowindra Star and Woodstock Recorder — 18 April 1902

Messrs. Anthony Hordern & Sons' Pavilion. One of tbe very finest and most complete exhibits at the bIiow was that of Messrs. Anthony Hordern and Sons, whose larger pavilion was completely filled with a varied and artistically-arranged collection of their innumerable wares A glance round tbe building gave one a better idea of tbe enor mous and catholic nature of the business of this well-known hnn that even an inspection of their numerous stores could do. For one may be easily bewildered by tbe very vastness of the latter, while tbe pavilion by the selec tion which it contained of specimens of almost every kind of article dealt in by the firm, pressed home to one at once tbe large and varied nature of the stock. Many of tbe articles were manufactured by the firm's own workmen, and a glance at the furniture, for instance, proved that, given an opportunity, Australian workmen can turn out worn quite as excellent as any that can be imported. A magnifi -.ent assortment of gas fit...

Machinery Section. [Newspaper Article] — Canowindra Star and Woodstock Recorder — 18 April 1902

Machinery Section. Tue display of machinery, slient and in motion, for agricultural, dairy and pas toral requirements, is always one of the most striking features of the Royal Show from the average spectator's point of view, and is certainly one of the most interesting to ine practical man. uie hum, whirr, buzz, rattle, pant and swish of the various types of engines and the machinery worked by them gives a life and cheerful hustle to the scene which without them would lack animation. Special interest seemed to be taken in the portable pas engines, vapor engines and motors, binders and harvesters in motion, but. a crowd was always to be i ? - t ? i ii... n.'-.... box-making machinery watching tlie j cunning little machine at work driving 1 four nails at once into the side of a box. The milking machine also attracted large numbers to see it in operation. There cannot be any doubt that labor saving appliances and machinery are rapidly coming into greater favor, and that tiieir scope is...

Gummow, Forrest and Co., Limited MONIER EXHIBIT. [Newspaper Article] — Canowindra Star and Woodstock Recorder — 18 April 1902

iGummow, Forrest and Co., Limited j MONIElt EXHIBIT. This firm's exhibit consisted of manufac tures in concrete'and iron conjointly applied in such a way that the concrete protects the iron from rusting, while the iron prevents the coneretc'froni cracking, and at the sane time augments me lensne strength of the con crete so that the great compressive strcnglh ot tlie latter may lie used to its full est extent. This reinforcing of the concrete enables the 'firm to manufacture portable articles of | much larger dimen sions than was here tofore possible with concrete alone. The exhibit of circulnr and oval pipes of va rying sizes, also tlie line of 3 feetC inch circular pipes along side, already jointed in position, demon strated the accuracy aud the splendid finish of the manu facture. Other exhibits were — P o r t a b 1 e water tanks : flagging for footpaths and court yards in s eve ral colors; troughs for feeding or watering horses, cattle, and pigs ; tables for dairy, factory, and ...

Woodstock Items. BATHURST SHOW. [Newspaper Article] — Canowindra Star and Woodstock Recorder — 18 April 1902

Woodstock Items. BATHURST SHOW. (By 'Hazel.') Bathurst Show was held on Wednes day Thursday, and Friday last, the at tendance on Thursday and Friday being enormous. Owing to the postponement of the greater number of the most im portant events of the exhibition, large numbers of countryfolk remained until Saturday. The niRjority of tho sections1 were well supported, though there were [ numerous instances in which the articles] shown Were 6f inferior quality. One of | these I noticed particularly, via., the; fruit soction. The fruit shown was cf! very poor quality. Having been a visi tor to the late Canowindra Show, and being interested in the cultivation o? fruit., I could not but compare the exhibit of fruit there and that at Hath met. The latter suffered by comparison, that of Canowindra being far and away 1 superior in quality and variety. As is the case at all shows the greatest amount of interest was evinced in the trotting and jumping events, the breaking of the mile trotting r...
