MAGISTERIAL ENQUIRY AT OAKLEIGH. A magisterial enquiry into the cause of the death of an old and respected resident of Oakleigh, named Andrew Bates, whose body was found in a tank, on the premises just outside the township, on the 8th inst., was held by Thos. Irwin, J.P., last Monday at his late residence. Isabella Bates deposed : Deceased was my husband, and was 23 years of age. Last saw him alive on the evening of the 7th inst, at about half past eight o'clock. He was then in the kitchen sitting close by the fire. Went out to milk the cow and re- turned in about a quarter of an hour, and found he had gone out. He was under the influence of drink when I last saw him alive, and he was also suffering from severe ill- ness.
