CORRESPONDENCE. (To the Editor of the Richmond Ricer Express.) [Newspaper Article] — The Richmond River Express and Tweed Advertiser — 27 January 1903

CORRESPONDENCE. I (To the Editor of the Hichumul fficer Kxprems.) I Slit, — l am sure you would be doing 1he farmers a great benefit if you would publish in your widely read paper tlie enclosed extract from the ' Daily Telegraph,' as to ' How to make Ensilage,' from Ibe pen of Sir. Potts. Principal of Hawkesburv Col v lege. Iam afraid we are going to I have a severe winter for our cattle, and farmers who have in many in stances from l-J to 40 acres of maize ruined by the late hot. winds would do well to avail themselves of the advice given by Mr. Potts. As an example, Mr. Duncan, of Deep Creek, Jast. winter made luO tons of ensilage from maize, m the stage as a rule as it is at present. The cost incurred in cutting and stacking was little compared with the proht he had .from his dairy herd. As an old hand at the game, I recom mend our farmers who have maize blighted to do likewise. — Yours, &c., Neil Haui'KK. Casino, January, 190 '?-. [article referred to.] Mr. Kitld, State ...

Mr. Reiil o ei l!i 6 War B'alli. ' Great Fiohtino Speech. The Right Hon. G. II. Reid, leader of tho Opposition in the Federal Parliament, has boon splendidly received in Western Australia, where his meetings liavo been crowded and enthusiastic. When lie put. on the Land and- Iucome ?Tax. in New South Wales there was not a landowner in the country who believed he :was; making hini better oft, and there was - not- n man wnh n big income who believed that lie (Mr. Reul) was Ins friend. News of the District. Drake. [Newspaper Article] — The Richmond River Express and Tweed Advertiser — 27 January 1903

News of the District, i Vralic... (from OUIl CORUESPONliHNT.) | January 24 — On the 17th intftnnt, at IJ.30 p.m., we very suddenly got. the partial force of a wind and rain storm. Fortunately its strength had been partly spi'iit before reaching Drake, else numbers of buildings must have been much damaged. Even as -it. was, the furious wind played sad havoc with anything at all insecure. No one litid made any preparations for such a visitation, and the frantic efforts to haul up horizontally flying verandah blinds, tho wind rushing hither and thither, of householders banging doors and windows, and people recovering their scattered goods and chattels, would have been highly humorous had there been any leisure-for exercising observation. The storm lasted about 20 minutes, and, -judging from tlio quantity of water lodged within doors, a good deal of rain mu:t have fallen; but, alas ! too late to recuperate our prrjhed-up gardens.
